Pastor Travis Lucas Obituary – Travis Lucas was born on October 22, 1942, in Waukegan, Illinois. He lived his entire life there until God called him home early on April 9, at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Illinois. Travis was baptized at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church by Pastor Jonathan N. Lightfoot after accepting Christ as his personal Savior at a young age.

Travis was a lifelong member whose services included more than 25 years as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, usher, choir director, and Baptist Training Union singer. Travis was a past president of the Shiloh Federal Credit Union and a member of the board of directors. After 20 years of service, Travis retired from the Great Lakes Naval Base Fire Department. He served as the Naval Station’s first African-American paramedic and retired as a captain.

For over 50 years, he held a barber license in Illinois. In 1961, Travis tied the knot with Barbara Craig, the love of his life, and the couple welcomed three children into their family. Travis was a family man who cared deeply about the well-being and contentment of his house. He expressed strength and faith at trying times and delighted in his children’s victories.

Travis’s 49-year wife, Barbara, his daughter DeNise (Michael) Strawn of Avondale, AZ, son Travis, Jr. (Jeanne’) of Beach Park, IL, daughter Debbie (Lloyd) Biddle of Madison, WI, mother Hattie Grace Lucas of Waukegan, grandchildren Donovan and Marques Strawn, Travis, III (Tre’), and Alana Lucas, sisters-in-law Marcella (Burnette) King of Pensacola, FL, Carolyn Pickens of East St. Louis, IL, nephews James Pickens of East St. Louis, IL, Leslie (Kim) King of Carson, CA, and Geoffrey (Charlin) King of Atlanta, GA, as well as other cousins, relatives, and friends, are all cherished in Travis’ memory.
